Assistant Professor of Communication, Race and Ethnicity
The Department of Communication Studies invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant professor of communication, race and ethnicity
beginning August 1, 2009. UNCG has several interdisciplinary and
programmatic research initiatives in race/ethnicity, and diversity,
including African-American Studies, and Women's and Gender Studies. The
Department of Communication Studies has made "Voices of change,
diversity and difference, and conflict" one of its four focus areas for
scholarship. We seek a candidate with any methodological approach to
research that contributes to the department mission, the above focus,
and/or one or more of our other three focus areas (http://www.uncg.edu/cst/ <http://www.uncg.edu/cst/>
). The candidate's scholarship will build on existing departmental
strengths by addressing one or more of the following: African-American
communication, African-American rhetoric, race/ethnicity and pedagogy,
Afrocentric communication, race/ethnic identity.
Communication Studies has a BA with 350+ majors and an MA program with
35+ students, and nine full-time tenure track faculty. We are proud of

The candidate selected will:
*Develop courses in communication, race & ethnicity and teach in our
undergraduate and graduate programs, conduct and publish communication
research, and provide service to the department, university, community,
and profession.
*Show promise of being able to engage in collaborative,
interdisciplinary, and externally funded research.
*Show evidence of effectiveness in teaching.
*Demonstrate a close connection to the departmental mission and four
focus areas in teaching, research, and service.
*Hold or anticipate an earned Ph.D. in Communication by August 1, 2009.
Review of applicants will begin Dec.1st and will continue until position
is filled. Send letter of application, vita, evidence of scholarly
productivity and teaching effectiveness, and three letters of
recommendation by Dec 1st to:
